This moderate-level challenging trail is one of the best in Coimbatore. The view is incredible and thoroughly enjoyable. We spotted an elephant and its calf. The guides were kind and knowledgeable, especially about the flora on the hills. I'd advise people to carry adequate water, as there aren't any streams you'd come across along the trail.
Guides were fantastic and the views throughout the hike were awe inspiring. Must do for anyone who likes hiking. It’s a fairly intense hike, be warned with about 650m of elevation gain in total. Took us 4.5 hours including lunch and view stops at a moderate pace. The last 200m climb can be skipped if one’s feeling tired since the temple is only open for pilgrimage on Saturdays in Purataasi. The best views are anyway along the ridge which you walk on for more than half the hike with beautiful views on either side.
It's neither easy nor hard Trek,Need proper trekking or quality shoes .The trail is steep at few places and more gradual elevation beyond that ,on the way you can notice lot of lemon grass and wild dwarf date palm plants which the local sloth bear feasts ,we noticed lot of bear scats .once reach the top ,if during the monsoon season its drizzling almost all day and very windy. The meal (variety rice )they provided is very filling as the qty is bit too much for normal eater.if planning for hard level trekking, this can be used to test your condition.
I had a wonderful trekking experience in the Western Ghats under the 'Trek Tamil Nadu' initiative. The guides were excellent—polite, informative, and truly supportive throughout the hike. I strongly support your mission of responsible ecotourism and appreciate the conservation efforts being made. To further enhance the experience, I suggest two improvements: implementing stricter plastic usage checks at both the entry and trail levels to keep the forest pristine, and making better arrangements for water supply to support the trekkers. Overall, it was a great experience, and I look forward to participating in more guided treks.
Sembukarai - Perulmalmudi Trek 05 07 2026 We had an amazing trek to Prumalmudi from Senbukarai. Well we didn’t go all the way to Perumalmudi because the wind was just too heavy. Literally pushing us to one side as we were walking. The group of guides there are very welcoming. They gave us our lunch (Puliyodharai rice) neatly packed in a stainless steel box. We got caps, a note about birds there, a cap.. Dejasvi was our smiling guide. The initial stretch about an hour is a steep climb. Then the path levels out over the ridge. You get superb views all around. Carry all essential clothing. We wore rain ponchos in the beginning of the trek. Had to take it off once the sun came up and made it super hot. Then the wind picked up and we were wearing jackets. So we got all sorts of weather in the 4 hours we hiked (we took very long breaks). You will take a lot of pics. All in all a very minimally challenging and nourishing weekend trek. We reported at Mangarai at 8, drove up to Sembukarai by 9 and we started the trek by 9:30 finished by 1:30.. all comfortably with very few challenging sections in between. Go for this one, you will enjoy it. Make sure the weather is not too hot.. we were lucky.
